Reiki & Craniosacral Therapy
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a form of energy work. It means "universal life energy" and comes from the Japanese rei which means universal and ki which means life force or energy. The practice is based on the teachings of Mikao Usui who studied healing in Tibet, and practiced healing methods in Japan in the early twentieth century. My study of Reiki began in 2006 and I am a certified Level II Practitioner.
When one's ki or energy is disrupted, the body becomes out of balance and sickness can develop. The Reiki Practitioner works with one's energy to correct this imbalance by placing her hands over the body of the person receiving the treatment. The practitioner follows a sequence of hand positions and may scan the body to feel for energy blockages. The receiver usually experiences a deep sense of calm and relaxation.
What You Can Expect During the Session.
For your first visit, I have a short form for you to fill out, so please arrive a few minutes early. I'll take a few minutes to check-in with you to see how you are doing and to answer any questions or address any concerns. During the session, you'll lie on a table, fully clothed. I will place my hands on or slightly above your head, shoulders, neck, chest, back and limbs. No pressure is applied and no muscles or joints are manipulated. You might experience a feeling of warmth inside of you or you might feel my hands as being very warm. You might feel some tingling, pulsing or shifts in your energy or body temperature. Some people fall asleep during the session or settle into that space between asleep and awake where they might experience seeing dream like images or memories. Some people don't feel anything, but that's nothing to worry about. There will be movement in your energy regardless of whether or not you are feeling it. Reiki techniques appear simple, but the effects can be significant. Reiki promotes healing on many levels, and results are different for everyone.
What You Can Expect Following the Session.
Some people experience an immediate sense of calm, clarity or boost in energy. Others feel sleepy or emotional. I recommend drinking lots of water, and taking it easy following a session as your body continues to integrate the experience.
Who Can Benefit From Reiki?
Anyone who wants to experience a deep sense of relaxation can benefit from Reiki. A Reiki session can help to quiet and calm the mind. It can help with pain management and can help to relax tense muscles. I've even had clients tell me that it helps to "open up" their sinuses and relieves sinus pain and pressure. Reiki is also being used in hospitals as a pre and post operation complimentary healing practice and a service to help patients rest and relax while they are in the hospital, so as to assist the healing process.
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy
I am a graduate of the 3 year Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST) program at Turtle Back Craniosacral Education and have been practicing since 2013. I started receiving BCST at the recommendation of a friend, and found it to be good for stress reduction and deep relaxation. After receiving sessions for about a year, I decided that I had to learn more about it, and signed up for an introductory course. After that first class, I knew that BCST was a part of my path, and I signed up for the 3 year certification course.
What is Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (BCST)?
BCST is a form of energy work that taps into the body's energetic rhythms including what we call the Breath of Life. Like Reiki, BCST can be subtle yet powerful in it's effects. BCST can promote healing on many levels and results are different for everyone.
How Does It Work?
The Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapist uses light touch, less than a nickel's weight, to connect with the body's subtle rhythms. Like in a Reiki session, the participant lies fully clothed on a table while the BCS Therapist maintains a series of hand positions along the body which invite the muscles to release stress and tension. Holding stress and tension in our muscles, can inhibit the flow of energy. When muscles and the nervous system relax, energy can flow more easily. This can lead to a host of positive effects. Many people report a sense of deep relaxation, a reduction in pain and anxiety, improved sleep and digestion and a greater sense of wellbeing. BCST is not massage, and no muscles, bones or joints are manipulated.
Who Can Benefit from BCST?
BCST is suitable for all ages from infants to the elderly. BCST has been helpful for infants who are having a difficult time breastfeeding, sleeping or who are "cholicy." It has been helpful for children who have hyperactivity, learning difficulties and chronic ear problems. BCST has been helpful for people recovering from surgery, sports injuries, car accidents and other traumatic events. It can also have positive benefits for those with chronic pain syndromes like arthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome and other inflammatory, painful disorders.
Whether you want to de-stress or have one of the many ailments listed above, as your Craniosacral Therapist, I can offer you a safe space to relax and embark on a healing journey.
